1. Visit the oldest National Park in the Alps
I’ve always been drawn to Switzerland for its beauty and serenity. Maybe it’s the snow-capped mountains, the green valleys, or the winding rivers. But this country has always felt like a second home to me. I remember the first time I went there; I was on a school trip, and we were staying in a small village in the Alps. The scenery was mesmerizing. The pristine lakes and quaint little houses looked like a fairytale. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to visit many different places worldwide. But no matter where I go, I will always return to Switzerland.
I had heard about the Swiss National Park in Graubünden, but I never imagined it would be so beautiful. The rolling hills, the rushing waterfalls, and the stunning scenery were all more than I could have ever hoped for. And the biodiversity was incredible. I saw red deer, Capricorns, and marmots all day. It was an unforgettable experience.
But the best part of my trip was when I tried the famous Bündner Nusstorte. This delicious walnut pie is made with a flaky crust and is absolutely heavenly. If you’re ever in Graubünden, be sure to try it!
2. Taste Swiss Gruyère – named the world’s best Cheese
First class service, and they offer a variety of authentic Swiss dishes.
3. Wine tasting on the highest Vineyard in Europe
On this trail, you’ll zigzag your way through the Riebe vineyards and enjoy stunning views of the Valais region. You’ll also get to sample some delicious local cuisine at eight different stops along the way. This will surely be a memorable experience you’ll treasure for years, and I can’t wait to return next year.
I’ve always loved cheese. So when I heard that Gruyère in Switzerland was named the best place in the world for it, I knew I had to go. The entire town is dedicated to the famous hard cheese, and you can find it everywhere. From restaurants to bars and shops, it’s always served with a glass of good wine.
I tried the cheese fondue at l’Enclume, which was terrific.
The charming medieval picture book town was the perfect backdrop for my Swiss cheese adventure. Plus, the views of the Alps were breathtaking. So, if you love cheese as much as I do, you need to add Gruyère to your travel list.
I’m always on the lookout for new and flavorful wines to try. So when I heard about the Wii-Grill Fäscht, I knew I had to go. So I participated in the wine-themed hiking tour in Visperterminen.
4. Blausee – one of the most splendid Mountain Lakes
I had always wanted to see this azure lake, which lived up to its name. The color was stunning, and the water was crystal clear. It was the perfect place to relax and take in the beauty of nature. I spent my days hiking around the nature reserve and picnicking by the lake. It was an active day trip, but it was worth it because I got to see some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. The lake is a must-see destination for anyone who loves nature in a fairytale-like scenery.
5. Discover the Beauty of Grindelwald
I love spending time in Grindelwald. There’s something about the air and the views! They’re breathtaking. I like to wander around First and then make my way up to the Cliff Walk. The views from up there are unbeatable. But if you’re looking for something even more peaceful, I recommend heading to Bachalpsee. It’s a beautiful spot and only a half-hour hike from First. No matter what you decide to do, you’re sure to fall in love with Grindelwald, as I have.
6. Mürren – The most charming Village in the Swiss Alps
I took the cable car from Stechelberg up to Mürren – and was immediately enchanted. The small village clings to a hillside and offers a wonderful view of the famous Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. The houses in Mürren are very traditional, with flower boxes and neat gardens. The streets are lined with adorable small shops and cafés. In summer, you can go on exciting hikes or take a tandem paragliding flight and enjoy the breathtaking views.
I loved my time in Mürren and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a magical experience in the Swiss Alps.
7. The Lake Geneva Shoreline
Geneva is one of Switzerland’s most popular tourist destinations, but many visitors never venture outside the city limits. However, if you take a short drive or bike ride outside Geneva, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding mountains. I had previously read about the Tour du Léman, a scenic cycling ride around Lake Geneva. Excited to tackle part of this well-signed route myself, I decided to take the ferry to charming Evian-Les-Bains in France, from where I cycled back to Geneva.
I was rewarded with magnificent views of the largest Alpine lake in Europe along the way. After this beautiful cycle tour, I was looking forward to dinner; I had an excellent and meticulously-prepared dinner at the Michelin-starred restaurant Le Chat Botté, a classic-style restaurant in the five-star Hôtel Beau-Rivage. It is a popular place for business lunches and dinners, especially during the summer when you can dine outdoors overlooking the lake. The restaurant served me some of the finest food I’ve ever had.
8. Montreux – where Writers and Poets come to stay
Montreux is one of my favorite places to go for a peaceful getaway. It’s gorgeous, and the city always seems to have a calming effect on me. I’ve been coming here for years to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, and it’s become one of my favorite places to relax and clear my head. One of the best things to do in Montreux is taking the train up to Rochers-de-Naye. The panoramic views of Lake Geneva are stunning, and it’s a pleasant place to unwind.
If you’re ever in Montreux, definitely make sure to check out the daffodils. They’re beautiful and make the whole city seem even more magical.
9. Lake Oeschinen – one of the most beautiful Lakes in Switzerland
I had read about the beauty of Lake Oeschinen, but I was not prepared for the majesty that I encountered when I finally saw it in person. The lake is surrounded by some of the most impressive mountains I have ever seen, and the views of the glaciers are breathtaking. I spent hours just sitting by the lake, taking in the scenery and enjoying the peace and quiet. It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a breathtaking natural setting with a calming effect on your body and mind.
10. Taste Swiss Chocolate – the ultimate Indulgence
You probably know the world-famous chocolate brands Lindt and Cailler. But have you heard of Camille Bloch? I’ve always loved chocolate, but I have to say no other country’s chocolate can compare to Switzerland’s in terms of both taste and quality.
I was lucky enough to visit the Camille Bloch factory in Courtelary, northwestern Switzerland, and let me tell you, the experience was unforgettable. The chocolate here is made using traditional methods and the latest technology to produce some of the best chocolate in the world. Even better, you can taste the chocolate right out of the factory! I would highly recommend this experience to any chocolate lover.
Try the Torino classic chocolate branches, my all-time favorite chocolate since I first visited Switzerland; Praline branches with hazelnut cream melting in your mouth. These are heavenly, and I recommend leaving enough room in your luggage to bring some back home.
I have been visiting Switzerland for the past five years, and I can say without a doubt that it is one of my favorite places in the world. The air is clean, and the scenery is just magnificent. I feel safe here, and there are plenty of things to see, do and explore. I highly recommend you add it to your travel list.
